“You know what I’ve always wondered?” Doreen said.  “When did swearing start? Why do we curse?”

“Cursing come,” JeFree said.  “When we need the extra emphasis.”

“But how far back does it go?”

“Probably it go back to the first human, when, in the middle o’ the night, them wake with a start…and fall outta the tree.”

“I wonder what those first words were.”

“Hard to say, but no doubt them words reflect they own primitive variation o’ fornication or feces.”

“How about goddamn?”

“No. Definitely not because God not invented till later. First come profanity, then come God.”
